ISKOLAR-BOS

SK MEMBERS –ISKOLAR-BOS TRAINING
Conducted June 6-8, 2008 at Don Bosco Training Center
Batasan, Makilala, Cotabato



I. Activity- Leadership Capability Building for Young Leaders
II. Purpose- To Capacitate newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan members assumed office responsibility and function as representative for the youth sector in local governance
III. Number of Participants attended- 37 SK Chairmen
IV. Duration- 3 days period
V. Summary:

The ISKOLAR-BOS is a capability building enhancement activity of the newly elected Sangguiniang Kabataan Leaders.It was participated by 37 SK Chairmen coming from different barangays in the municipality of Makilala.

It was a three (3) day activity designed on holistic approach that would prepare the young leaders to discharge their respective functions as young leaders in their communities.

Topics introduced were: Basics on SK as representative of various committees; Obligation and Responsibilities; Rights & Privileges; Legislation-How to conduct sessions; Personality types; How to handle criticisms; Righteous Leadership; Basics of development Planning; Fiscal Management; Leadership & Team Building; UNICEF Matters-(Child Friendly Movement); ARH Orientation.

The technique used was a lecture and workshop enhanced with indoor and outdoor activities. The whole training duration was handled by a team of trainers coming from the DILG, Religious Sector, Provincial Government, Youth Sector (M’lang & Makilala) and staff from the LGU of Makilala.

Activity processing started with arrival, registration, Opening program & Billeting of participants of June 6 at 9:30 am and ended with a simple closing program of June 8 at 4: in the afternoon.

ACTIVITIES- TRANSPIRED IN THE 3 day ISKOLAR-BOS

A. ORGANIZE- PARTICIPANTS- For better management and enhance active participation.


The 37 SK Chairmen were group into 4 with an average of 8 members per group identified by their group names such as the SURVIVORS; FEARLESS; CATAPULT and 8 CYLE MIND.
Every group has developed their battle cry or yell for group identity. A group leader was appointed from among members. Importance of organizing into groups was to encourage active group participation with star awards for group performance during the 3 day activity. Of the 4 groups, The Group under the Survivors team garnered the highest number of stars, followed by the Fearless team, next in line was the 8 Cycle mind team and the least star received was the Catapult team.







B. TOPICS- INPUTS FOR YOUNG LEADERS- THE HOLISTIC APPROACH.


Young leaders earnestly listen to the input topic on RIGHTEOUS LEADERSHIP. A resource person from the religious sector, shared insights on how and what owe to be for a righteous leader.
















TIPS - HOW TO HANDLE CRITICISM and understanding PERSONALITY TYPES


Effective leader should know self; have knowledge in knowing others to understand different types of personality. Young leaders were given tips how to handle criticism. LEADERSHIP IS BUILDING TEAMWORK.


The training activity has incorporated leadership skills on PUBLIC SPEAKING. Develop self- confidence for youth leaders. SK Chairman of barangay Poblacion took the lead during group output presentation.



C. TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY- INDOOR APPROACH


LEADERSHIP/TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY- DEVELOPED BETTER UNDERSTANG AND UNITY IN ACHIEVING ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS/OBJECTIVES (Mind, Body & Soul Team Leadership Alert)
ROLE PLAY-LEARDESHIP (CONFLICT RESOLUTION)



The role players acted real during the presentation of Consultative Type of resolving conflict… A real scenario happens at the barangay, very common case astray animal, like goat that inflicted damage to crops.










RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP ROLE PLAY

The center guy acted the role of a Barangay Chairman; next to him represents as the barangay council members; while the boy in red tshirt as the respondent and the girl in long hair wearing pink tshirt as the complainant. Other members of the participants serve as the observers.














D. RESPONSIBLE ADOLECENT LEADERS


These young leaders are adolescents! This stage is their transition phase to adulthood. To equip them, understand its biological state of change, through full awareness on Adolescence Reproductive Health.

A leader should be versatile if he is physically, mentally and emotionally prepared. The activity
to test their physical and emotional capacity. The value of Obedience

Leaders should be always on a state of good physical and mental health and be emotionally mature to lead a team/group
